Every year second grade work with Mrs. Sloop to collect, sort, and pack shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. On Nov. 9 my class went to the library to sort items that have been brought in by the school. Each child was given a bag to empty and sort into appropriate piles on the tables (girls, boys, toiletries, toys, etc). Then on Nov. 12 we went back to pack the boxes. Students got to choose if they wanted to do a boy or girl box. There was a list of items on the board that they each had to make sure went into the boxes.
That afternoon, I went back to the library to help Mary clean up the rest of the items that were on the tables. I packed a shoe box with some of the remainders.
On Nov. 18 my class went back to the library to take a class photo with the boxes and helped carry the boxes out to Mrs. Sloop's car.

This is such a great project for the students to participate in and they really enjoy making another girl or boy happy for the holidays!
