1 hour and 15 mins.
I met with Mary today to create a book review template that students will be able to fill out and read over the intercom during the morning and afternoon announcements.
Before we began, Mary was talking with other people so I shelved books for 15 mins.
The SIPT team is where we came up with the idea for the template. We are in school improvement this year and we wanted a strategy that would help promote reading throughout the school. That is where the student book reviews will come into play. Any student from kindergarten to fifth grade will be able to participate in the book reviews so we wanted to make the template friendly enough that anyone could use it. Of course the kindergartners will still need help but later in the year they may be able to do it by themselves.
We included a place for the student to put their name, their grade and classroom. They have a place for the book title and author, write a few sentence summary about the book, recommend another book like it and then an ending of where to find the book.
SIPT teams plan is to have several students share books every other week to get students interested.
After we finished deciding what would go in the template I went back to my classroom and typed it up. I am excited to see how the book reviews will turn out!
