August 30- 1 hour
This was our first faculty meeting where we discussed Steven Layne, a teacher and an author that specializes in reading promotion in the schools. We discussed that all teachers and staff in the school should have a "book pick." This should be a book that we would like for students to read. These books should be displayed in a way that they will catch the students' attention and will then want to read the book after us. We also discussed other strategies that Steven Layne came up with, like the recommendation shelf, the someday book lists, and the read around "game" that allows students to view several books in a small amount of time. This was a very informative meeting where we all became more interested in promoting books and reading.
